Good Shout ("Good Shout", "we", "us" or "our") is a UK-based cultural events guide available at thegoodshout.co.uk.

Good Shout is currently operated by an individual in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

This policy explains what information we collect, why we use it and the choices you have.

Section 1

Information we collect

Most people can browse Good Shout without giving us their name, email address or creating an account.

We may collect personal information when you submit an event, use account functionality or otherwise interact with features that require information from you.

Event submissions

If you submit an event, we may collect:

  • your name;
  • your email address;
  • the organiser's name;
  • an Instagram or social-media link; and
  • information you provide in the "Why is it a Good Shout?" field.

Your name and email address are optional.

We also collect information about the event itself, such as its name, date, venue, location, event type, music, organiser and ticket link.

Submitter names and email addresses are not displayed publicly.

Accounts

Although account functionality is not currently promoted as part of the main Good Shout experience, some account functionality exists.

If you create or use an account, we may process:

  • your email address;
  • your user ID;
  • authentication-provider information;
  • account timestamps;
  • an optional display name;
  • events you save; and
  • information needed to manage account permissions.

Authentication is provided using Supabase Auth and may include Google sign-in.

Information from public sources

Good Shout discovers and verifies events using publicly available information from sources such as organisers, venues, ticketing platforms and public websites.

This information may include organiser names, social-media handles, event descriptions, ticket links and source URLs.

We may also create editorial information about events, such as likely crowd, vibe, who an event may suit and why we think it is a Good Shout.

This information relates to events and our editorial assessment of them. We do not use this process to make legal or similarly significant automated decisions about individuals.

Section 2

How we use information

We use information where necessary to operate and improve Good Shout, including to:

  • receive and review event submissions;
  • verify event information;
  • maintain accurate event listings;
  • decide which events to list or recommend;
  • administer accounts and saved events where those functions are used;
  • protect the security and integrity of the service;
  • operate and maintain the website; and
  • respond to legitimate privacy or administrative requests.

Where UK data protection law requires a lawful basis, this may include our legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving Good Shout, taking steps requested by you when you use particular services, complying with legal obligations, or consent where appropriate.

We do not sell personal information.

We do not currently use personal information for email marketing, newsletters, WhatsApp marketing or targeted advertising.

Section 3

Event intelligence and AI

Good Shout uses technology to help discover, extract and organise information about events.

Public event-page content may be processed using Firecrawl and AI services accessed through Lovable's infrastructure, including Google Gemini.

Automated tools may assist with event extraction, confidence assessment, ranking and proposed event intelligence.

Good Shout's editorial intelligence may include assessments such as likely crowd, vibe, best for and why an event may be worth knowing about.

AI-generated intelligence proposals are subject to human review before approval.

These processes concern events. We do not use automated decision-making to make decisions about individuals that have legal or similarly significant effects.

Section 4

Local storage and similar technologies

Good Shout currently uses limited browser storage.

Vibe preferences

If you use the "Make it more my vibe" feature, your preferences may be stored in your browser using local storage.

These preferences remain on your device and are used to personalise event ranking locally. They are not sent to the Good Shout database.

Authentication

If you sign in, authentication information is stored in your browser to keep you signed in and operate account functionality.

Good Shout does not currently use advertising cookies, tracking pixels or third-party behavioural advertising technologies.

We do not currently use Google Analytics, Plausible, PostHog or another application analytics platform.

Our infrastructure providers may process technical request information necessary to deliver, secure and operate the website.

Section 5

Third-party services

We use service providers to operate Good Shout. Depending on how you use the service, information may be processed by:

  • Lovable, for hosting, deployment and supporting infrastructure;
  • Supabase, for database and authentication services;
  • Cloudflare, for website delivery, security and performance;
  • Firecrawl, for processing publicly available event pages;
  • Google, including Google sign-in, Google Fonts and AI services accessed through Lovable;
  • postcodes.io, when you use postcode-based event searching; and
  • OpenStreetMap Nominatim, for location and place searching.

Entering a postcode for event searching may result in that postcode being sent to the relevant geocoding service. Good Shout does not store the postcode from that search in its application database.

Some providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where required, appropriate safeguards for international transfers should apply through the relevant provider arrangements.

Our main application database and authentication data are currently hosted in the EU, in Frankfurt, Germany.

Section 6

How long we keep information

We do not keep personal information for longer than we reasonably need it.

Our current retention approach is:

  • optional submitter names and email addresses provided with event submissions are normally retained for up to 12 months after submission;
  • personal information contained in submission free-text is reviewed on the same basis and removed where it is no longer reasonably required;
  • account and profile information is retained while an account is active and may be retained for up to 12 months after the account is closed where reasonably required;
  • saved events are retained until you remove them or the associated account is deleted;
  • administrative role information is retained while required for that role and may be retained for up to 12 months afterwards;
  • publicly available organiser and event-source information may be retained where reasonably necessary to maintain, verify or evidence an event listing or Good Shout editorial decision; and
  • infrastructure and security logs are retained according to the policies and settings of the relevant service providers.

Your local Good Shout vibe preferences remain on your device until you reset them or clear your browser storage.

We may retain information for longer where reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, investigate misuse, meet legal obligations or protect the security of Good Shout.

We will periodically review retained personal information and delete or anonymise information that is no longer reasonably required.

Section 7

Security

We use technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information.

These include encrypted HTTPS connections, access controls, database security policies, server-side authentication and validation, restricted administrative permissions and platform-managed protection of credentials.

No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Section 8

Children

Good Shout is not designed to collect personal information specifically from children.

We do not ask users for their date of birth or knowingly collect children's personal information as part of the normal Good Shout experience.

Published age restrictions on Good Shout relate to entry requirements for events, not the age of Good Shout users.

Section 9

Ticketing and external websites

Good Shout does not currently sell tickets or process payments.

Links to tickets, venues, organisers, Instagram and other websites take you to third-party services.

Those organisations operate under their own privacy policies and practices. Good Shout is not responsible for how third-party websites process your information.

Section 10

Your data protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights over your personal information, including the right to:

  • ask for access to your personal information;
  • ask us to correct inaccurate information;
  • ask us to delete information;
  • ask us to restrict certain processing;
  • object to certain processing;
  • receive certain information in a portable format; and
  • withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

These rights are not absolute and may depend on the circumstances.

If you have concerns about how your information is handled, you also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office.

Section 11

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Good Shout develops.

The latest version will be published on this page and the "Last updated" date will be changed where appropriate.
